Remit 6 Study Series
Every once in awhile the United Church of Canada at the National level calls upon the congregations of the Church to take part in certain discussions and then vote on significant motions that have been forth for the whole Church body to decide upon--this is known as a Remit. We are currently in one of those times. There has been great debate and conversation regarding the United Church's founding document, called the Basis of Union, and whether it should be amended to potential doctrinal documents. The Board of Symons Valley needs to submit the ballots within a few months and in order to provide an informed and representative vote, Vicki and Sarah will be leading a series of evenings exploring the Remit - the history involved in this particular matter, the Basis of Union and the different documents in question. A straw poll will be conducted following the series so as to inform the Board of the sentiments of the congregation.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain further understanding of the workings of the wider church and to delve deeper into the different statements of faith and creeds lifted up by the church to help explain who we are as followers of Christ. Each evening will consist of information sharing, interactive learning and group discussions. While the series as a whole will allow for a comprehensive understanding of the Remit, you are welcome to attend as you are able - there will be something to learn and discuss each evening! While drop-ins are welcome, if you are planning on attending, please let Essie know which evenings you will be there so that Sarah and Vicki can plan accordingly for number
We hope to see you on the following Wednesday evenings 7 - 9 PM:
February 29 - Remit History
March 7 - Basis of Union, Articles of Faith
March 14 - 1940 Statement of Faith
March 21 - 1968/1980/1992 A New Creed
March 28 - 2006 A Song of Faith
Alberta Northwest Conference May 31st to June 3rd 2012 at SAIT
Volunteer Stewards are needed for Conference. Please help us ensure we have enough stewards for the conference. We need at least 25 stewards per day; some may wish to volunteer for the whole conference, others for just a day. If every congregation provided us with at least 3 volunteers committed to part or all of the conference we would have enough stewards. Please contact Margot Aftergood with the names and contact information for steward volunteers. Margot Aftergood 403 286-5775
As plans continue to unfold with the planning we may require further assistance from our congregations. We will keep you posted.
Thanks,
Susan Brodrick

This 2-part series is offered at St. Thomas United Church, 100 Hawkwood Boulevard NW. Fridays March. 2 and 23 from 7:30 to 9:00. Everyone welcome. RSVP to 241-0266.
